The invention relates to a method of operating a memory device (201) for storing electrical energy with at least two memory cells (203a, 203b), wherein the memory cells (203a, 203b) is charged by means of a provided by an electric charger physical load size and a physical size ( 301, 303) in each of the memory cells (203a, 203b) are monitored, characterized in that, depending (of the monitored variables 301, 303) transmits a control signal for controlling the charger to the battery charger, wherein, depending on the control signal, the charge amount successively is reduced. The invention further relates to a storage device (201) for storing electrical energy.
