Formula of Local Scour Depth around Spur Dikes

2004
The local scour depth is a key parameter in the design of spur dikes. Based on experiment data, a dimensional analysis for the estimation of local scour depth is presented. The scour depth is related to the approach flow Froude number, the spur dike length is relative to the approach flow depth, flow angle, slope of spur dike and the particle size distribution of the bed sediment. The test experience formula for estimation of the local scour depth is also given, it can be employed for engineers in the determination of the spur dike foundations.
