An Oil Independents View on Advances in Petroleum Industry Siesmic Acquisition Technology

2013
Abstract Apache has a diversified portfolio with marine operations in many parts of the world. According to Moore's Laws, things are getting smaller and becoming more numerous. In 5 years, someone will be using a field system with 1MM active channels. Multiple simultaneous sources will become the norm and they will not be restricted to vibratory sources. Full Azimuth data will also become the norm probably using nodes. There will be a continued effort to broaden the bandwidth of seismic data, particularly at the low frequency end of the spectrum through both source and receiver technology. Continuous recording will become the norm, with more use of nodes. Apache will continue investment in Marine Seismic Technology as this is critical to new areas of the world where Apache thinks they know what they are doing and would like to be a big player. Growth will be in new areas where Apache thinks technology can differentiate what has been done before.
