High frequency of ophthalmic origin of the middle meningeal artery in chronic subdural hematoma

Purpose Embolization of middle meningeal artery (MMA) has been proposed for postoperative recurrences and primary treatment of chronic subdural hematoma (CSDH). This endovascular intervention is safe only when MMA originates from the internal maxillary artery. The aim of this study was to report an unusual high frequency of MMA originating from the ophthalmic artery, which prohibits this treatment.
