Diagnosis and Treatment of Acute Hemorrhoidal Disease and the Complications of Hemorrhoidal Procedures

The acute care surgeon is occasionally called to assess and treat the thrombosed external hemorrhoid or the bleeding, prolapsing, or incarcerated internal hemorrhoid. Less commonly the acute care surgeon may be consulted to evaluate a patient with complications from office-based or operative procedures. Here, we provide a brief overview of evidence-based recommendations for the assessment and treatment of hemorrhoid disease and the complications of those treatments.
