Structural and Optical Properties of Spray-deposited Cu2ZnSnS4 thin Films☆

2014
Abstract Stoichiometric kesterite Cu2ZnSnS4 (CZTS) thin films were successfully synthesized by spray pyrolysis on heated glass under the air atmosphere. The characterization of its structure, morphology, phase constituents, and optical properties were done using powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), Scanning electron microscope (SEM), Energy Dispersive Spectrometer (EDS) and ultraviolet–visible (UV–vis) spectrophotometry, respectively. The X-ray diffraction and Energy Dispersive Spectrometer (EDS) showed single phase with a kesterite structure. The composition of the CZTS thin film was basically corresponds with the theoretical value. Moreover, the prepared products showed the morphology with size ranging from 200–400 nm.The observed bandgap of 1.5 eV matched well with the bulk CZTS material which made them promising candidates as absorber materials for photovoltaic applications.
