Preliminary Design of a Bi-2212 Insert Coil in a 7 T Superconducting Magnet

2018
China Fusion Engineering Test Reactor project (CFETR) is the new generation of Tokamak of China. Compared to Nb3Sn, Bi-2212 cable-in-conduit-conductor (CICC) is more anticipated due to the high irreversible field. In order to develop Bi-2212 CICC and verify the small-scale superconducting magnet technology, a 5 T inset coil is designed and planed to test in 7 T background field, where total field can achieve to 12 T and meet the requirement of ITER or CFETR devices. This paper mainly presents the preliminary design of the 5 T insert coil, including wire specifications, conductor parameters, coil structure design and field simulation results. The result can also provide experience for superconducting magnet further design and experiment.
