The Psychological Analysis of Orthodontic Patients in Obeying Doctor's Instruction

ObjectiveTo understand the psychological features of orthodontic patients in obeying doctor's instruction. One hundred and six patients (27 males, 79 females) accepted orthodontic treatment for 2 years from Feb., 2000 to Jan., 2002 were selected and analyzed. Their average age was 14.3 (12~23) years old, they were treated with corrector for fixation. After treatment, they wore teeth holder and persisted using for 1~2 years.Different ratio belonging to three main types of psychological feature (positive, depended, hesitative) was observed in various stages of treatment.[Conclusions] Positive measures, including different modes of persuasion and psychological coaching, should be adopted to eliminate patent's bad attitude in obeying doctor's instruction during different stages of treatment. Thus , a stable and good therapeutic efficacy can be achieved.
