HUMAN FACTORS - ITS DECISION REPORT

2001
This report assesses Human Factors involved in a Collision Avoidance System-Driver interface. It evaluates the effect of different in- vehicle devices (used to communicate warning messages) on driver reaction. These focus on two aspects: format and presentation of warning, and criteria of activation (time-to-collision or worst-case scenario). The report also provides comparative studies, a discussion on human factors issues in possible pre-crash situations, numerous links, and detailed references to on-line reports. Also available on the ITS DECISION website under the heading Collision Avoidance are reports dealing with: Longitudinal Collision Avoidance, Lateral Collision Avoidance, Intersection Collision Avoidance, Collision Avoidance through Vision Enhancement, and Implementation issues.
