A study of proton donor-acceptor systems in the overtone region

1974
Abstract The first overtone region of several alcohols and phenols bonded to acceptors of increasing basicity has been investigated in order to follow in a possibly wide interval the influence of hydrogen bond strength on anharmonicity. The attempted extension to very strong hydrogen bonds failed because the absorption showed no definite peaks. Some intramolecularly bonded phenols were also studied. The mechanical anharmonicity definitely increases with strength of hydrogen bonding for intermolecular hydrogen bond, but decreases for intramolecular ones.
