Research on Status of Living and Quality of Life of Migrants from Yangtze River Three Gorge Reservoir Area

Objectives To find out if there is difference of quality of life between migrants and local residents and to propose recommendations for improving quality of life of migrants.Methods Using quantitative interview and qualitative questionnaire to investigate quality of life of migrants and local residents.Results The difference between migrants from nearby and non-migrants was not significant,while the differences between migrants and local residents in other provinces were significant in some dimensions.Satisfaction level of family economic improvement,housing improvement and human relations of migrants were significantly lower than that of local residents.Migrants expected too much privilege from local governments,when did't realized they had dissatisfied and anxious emotion.Conclusions There are some problems in employment,family income,housing and human relations for migrants,therefore,their quality of life is lower and had some negative emotions.Aiming at these problems some measures should be taken such as organizing local residents and doctors to communicate with migrants,disposing house quality problems promptly,continuing to train migrants with working skills,employing as more migrants as possible in local enterprises,and admitting some qualified migrants into village committees and school faculty.
