An assessment of the NASA band model formulation for calculating the radiance and transmission of hot and cool gases. Report for 1 Jul--30 Dec 1975

1976
The NASA band model formulation for calculating the radiance and transmission of gases is evaluated by comparing its predictions to laboratory data on H/sup 2/O, CO/sup 2/, and various mixtures containing these gases. The calculations reproduce the measured values for homogenous and inhomogeneous samples of H/sup 2/O to within about ( or - 20%. The agreement with measured values for CO/sup 2/ was not as good, especially at low pressures. The theoretically derived band model parameters for CO/sup 2/ appear to be in error. For mixtures of H/sup 2/O, CO/sup 2/ and other gases (N/sup 2/, CO, H/sup 2/), the agreement was good. (Author) (GRA)
