Superconductor-Circuit-Temperature Coupled Simulation of a Fault-Tolerant Boost Converter Employing Superconducting Fault Current Limiter

2021
The self-triggering quenching resistance feature from resistive-type superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) is favored for suppressing the instantaneous short-circuit current during fault operations. This paper investigates a new SFCL-based over-current suppressing solution towards superconducting power electronics. A superconductor-circuit-temperature coupled model is built to clarify the fault current limiting behaviours and thus lay some technical bases for forming a SFCL-based over-current protecting scheme. The simulation results obtained in PLECS software verify the feasibility and practicability of using this SFCL-based protecting scheme for the use in designing fault-tolerant converters.
