Integrated and Flipped: 5 Years’ Experience of Integrating Active Learning in an Integrated Course

2016
The Commonwealth Medical College (TCMC) accepted its first class of students in 2009. Being a new medical school gave a group of pioneering faculty members a unique opportunity, to develop a curriculum unencumbered by tradition. The Clinical Presentation Curriculum model provided the framework for an integrated course which utilized podcasts and active learning techniques to facilitate student learning using a flipped classroom approach. In this monograph, we describe how we developed the TCMC model of an integrated system course for the second year medical students reflecting on our 5 years’ experience with this integrated and flipped classroom model.
