Development of a methodology for the estimation of wind energy resources in relatively large areas: Application to the eastern and central parts of Spain

Abstract A methodology has been developed for wind energy resources estimation, on relatively large areas with a small amount of data. The methodology is based on the computer code mathew which gives a wind field based on measurement at the surface and at an upper level, taking account of the topography and considering the continuity equation for the air. The methology was applied to the determination of areas of large wind energy potential at the eastern and central parts of Spain.
