Seconding as a capacity development tool for global health: Lessons from the field.

In this brief the Health Policy Project (HPP) draws on experiences seconding staff to government institutions in India Malawi and Afghanistan. HPP offers insights and practical guidance for maximizing the capacity development potential of this often used but underdeveloped approach. In addition to the brief case studies objectives and compelling rationales for seconding are described as well as nine practical recommendations for making secondments work. Although this brief focuses on global health experiences the objectives and recommendations can be applied in any sector.
