Bronchiolo-Alveolar Cell Carcinoma Diagnosed by Bronchoalveolar Lavage

This case demonstrates that bronchoalveolar lavage can be of use in the diagnosis of bronchiolo-alveolar cell carcinoma. We discuss why a lavage may be more successful than conventional bronchial washings in this disease and suggest that cytologic examination of the specimen should also be performed.
