A low wind-load lightweight foldable/deployable multi-beam base station antenna for the whole LTE spectrum

2018
A novel lightweight broadband foldable/de ploy able multi-beam base station antenna has been developed. The new antenna can produce an arbitrary number of beams with arbitrary beamwidths. It consists of two parabolic cylindrical reflectors and several novel feeds. It can provide simultaneous horizontal and vertical sectorization. All beams of the new antenna can be electrically tilted with different vertical tilting angles. The beams can also be shaped in the elevation plane in order to eliminate the interference with the surrounding base station antennas. The reflectors of the new antenna are easy to form from flat sheets with a very high surface accuracy. In order to significantly reduce the weight of the reflectors and also reduce the wind resistance, several holes are punched in the reflectors and also in their radomes. The gridded reflectors can be adjusted in order to make them foldable/deployable. The new multi-beam base station antenna can cover an unlimited number of wireless applications, regardless of their frequency bands, by adding more feeds. It can simultaneously cover all, current and future, wireless technology generations such as 2G, 3G, 4G (LTE), — etc. It covers the bands (450–470 MHz), (690–960 MHz), (1.4–2.7 GHz) and (3.3–3.8 GHz) with at least 2 ports for each band in each beam for ±45° polarizations.
