Osteoblast Responses to the Modified Surface of Porous Titanium

2013
This study was to investigate osteoblast responses to four modified surface of porous titanium struts in vitro, which including the AH surface, the AHS surface and the HA surface. The morphology, element contents of the four surfaces was observed by SEM and EDS. Cytotoxicity tests and proliferation was carried out cultures with three and seven days using murine preosteoblast cell. The results showed that the four surfaces have different microstructure, so the morphology of osteoblast on these surfaces is different either. The MTT showed that the four surfaces have non-toxic, and the osteoblast can proliferate, but the cell proliferation rate is different. Osteoblast on AHS and HA modified surface can grow and spread, but it cannot grow and spread on the UM and AH surface. Furthermore, osteoblast also can grow across the different titanium fibers of on the HA modified surface of porous titanium. It was concluded that HA coating improved proliferation and differentiation of osteoblasts.
