Background: The Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACES) study has illustrated the significance of personal trauma on individuals and their lifelong health. There is increasing emphasis in the field of pediatrics on the topics of toxic stress and early childhood trauma, as evidenced by recent AAP policy statements and advocacy initiatives. Home visitation is an evidence-based intervention that has been shown to reduce rates of child abuse.
