The physiologic changes in the fibrinolytic system during pregnancy establish a vulnerable state for disordered fibrin deposition both in the uteroplacental circulation and outside the uterus. Abnormal fibrin deposition is seen in pregnancies complicated by fetal growth retardation with and without preeclampsia
