Improvements in the Transmission Efficiency in an Electric Vehicles Wireless Power Transfer System Using Litz Magnetoplated Wire

In this paper, we proposed a litz magnetoplated wire (LMW) structures as transmission coils for 85kHz wireless power transmission in electric vehicle charging system. We verified that the DC-DC transmission efficiency using LMW coils was 91.6%, approximately 1.5% higher than that using traditional litz copper wire coils at a power level of 3 kW and a transmission distance of 150 mm. The magnetic conducting layer in the LMW structure reduces the AC resistance, therefore improving the transmission efficiency.
