2013
Evaluation on seed quality of rice seed producers, seed sellers and farmers were conducted in order to investigate the situation of rice seed quality in each province. There were three main activities conducted in 2008-2009 which were (i) evaluation on seed quality of rice seed producers and seed sellers, (ii) evaluation on rice seed quality of farmer used, and (iii) evaluation and monitoring on rice seed yield quality after using foundation seed. Popular rice varieties in Northern and Northeastern rice cultivated area were KDML105 and RD6. There were diversity of rice cultivars in the Lower Northern, Central, Eastern and Western cultivated area, particularly, non-recommended cultivars. The amount of rice seed samples that reached certified seed standard in these area were 33% of total samples. The amount of rice seed samples in northeastern area that reached certified seed standard were 40% of total samples. Popular rice varieties in Southern rice cultivated area were Leb Nok Pattani, Chainat 1 and local varieties. The amount of rice seed samples that reached certified seed standard in southern area were 45% of total samples. The amount of rice seed sampling from farmer own seed in the Central, Eastern and Western cultivated area that reached certified seed standard accounted for 17% of total samples. These below standard samples were mostly due to over red rice and other rice variety contamination. The amount of farmer own seed samples in the Northern and Northeastern cultivated area that reached certified seed standard accounted for 11% and 20% of total samples respectively. The amount of farmer own seed samples in the Southern cultivated area which reached certified seed standard were 6% of total samples. The amount of rice seed yield after using foundation seed with good cultural practices reached certified seed standard 55-100% of total samples.
