In vitro propagation of carambola by tissue culture

1995
A micropropagation method is described for Averrhoa carambola using shoot tips, cotyledonary nodes and nodal segments from aseptically grown seedlings on Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium. Nodal segments were found to be most suitable explants for axillary shoot proliferation. BA at 1.0 mg/l was most effective for maximum proliferation of shoots. Further, multiplication of axillary shoots could be achieved using nodal segments of the regenerated shoots. In vitro formed shoots when transferred to 0.1-1.0 mg/l IBA supplemented half-strength MS medium produced adventitious roots. Regenerated plantlets were successfully established in soil after few days indoor acclimatization.
