Objectives Complementary feeding diets in low- and middle-income countries are usually inadequate to meet requirements for healthy growth and development. Food-based interventions may prevent nutrient inadequacies provided they do not replace other nutrient-rich foods. They may also be more sustainable than manufactured food supplements. We describe the contribution of daily egg supplementation to usual energy intake, usual energy intake by food group, and minimum dietary diversity of rural Malawian infants and young children.
