Relationship between plastic tableware or plastic cups usage in pregnant women and fetal congenital heart disease

Objective:To explore the relationship between plastic tableware or plastic cups usage in pregnant women and fetal congenital heart disease.Methods:A total of 487 cases with congenital heart disease(including 402 cases with simple heart malformations and 85 cases combined with complex extracardiac malformations) were collected from five Maternal and Child Health Care Hospitals in Shenzhen city,Fuzhou city,Zhengzhou city,Xi'an city and Wuhan city from February 2010 to October 2012 were selected as study objects(case group),while 564 pregnant women without any birth defects during the same period were collected as control group;a case- control study was performed,non- conditional logistic regression mode was used to adjust confounding factors.Results:Compared with pregnant women who didn't use plastic tableware or plastic cups,OR values of congenital heart disease of fetuses born by pregnant women using plastic tablewares(95% CI = 1.113- 2.065) and plastic cups(95% CI = 1.021- 1.862) were 1.516 and 1.378,respectively.Conclusion:Usage of plastic tableware or plastic cups in pregnant women can increase the risk of congenital heart disease of their fetuses.
