QUALITY OF LIFE AT WORK ACCORDING TO WESTLEY METHODOLOGY: A STUDY DEVELOPED WITH OFFICIALS AND FIREMEN FROM A FIRE BRIGADE IN STATE OF PARANA
2010
This paper aims to verify whether or not the dimensions of Westley's model(1979), which defines the roots of QLW, in fact correlates to the subjective perception of Quality of Life at Work. For this purpose, the evaluation instrument proposed by Westley(1979) was applied in order to verify the perception of the officials and firemen from Fire Brigade about Quality of Life at Work(QLW) based on the identification of satisfaction levels in relation with economical, political, psychological and sociological dimensions related to Quality of Life at Work according to the proposed model. The results of the research indicate that most of the factors under evaluation are quite satisfactory. They also revealed that the observed issues in relation to the dimensions proposed by Westley had a higher average score with officials when compared to the firemen. Such inference indicates that the officials, in general, are more satisfied than dissatisfied regarding QLW that exists in the department. However, the lower average score levels revealed among the firemen demonstrate that it is necessary an effort from the department in order to improve the perception of its team concerning QLW conditions.
