Syntheses and structures of novel vanadium(II) complexes

Abstract The hydrated vanadium(II) compounds [VCl 2 (H 2 O) 4 ], [V(H 2 O) 6 ]Br 2 , [V(H 2 O) 6 ] (BF 4 ) 2 and [V(H 2 O) 6 ](CF 3 SO 3 ) 2 have been isolated from vanadium and the aqueous acid. From reactions of the hydrogen halide and vanadium immersed in glacial acetic acid, [VCl 2 (CH 3 COOH) 4 ] and [V(CH 3 COOH) 6 ]Br 2 have been obtained. The structures of [V(H 2 O) 6 ](CF 3 SO 3 ) 2 , [VCl 2 (CH 3 COOH) 4 ] and [V(CH 3 COOH) 6 ]Br 2 , which are new complexes, have been determined.
