Verification of the advantages in friction-reducing performance of organic polymers having multiple adsorption sites

2013
Abstract This paper demonstrates the superior friction-reducing properties of organic polymer having multiple-point adsorption sites. Multiple-point adsorptive polymers showed higher transition temperature at elevated temperature experiments than the single-point adsorptive polar compounds due to their lower desorption property. It was found that the transition temperature of multiple-point adsorptive polymers increased with an increase in polarity of the base oils. This was due to the intrinsic tendency of the polymer chains to expand more in higher polarity solvents, which resulted in the polar groups of the polymers facing toward the friction surface to produce more adsorption sites.
