Objective: To show possibilities for further improvements of vehicle air conditioners for passenger carriages. To consider possibilities of expanding the range of low temperatures of outer air under which it is permitted to use the heat pump regime for heating passenger carriages by replacing the working fl uid of a vehicle air conditioner with more effi cient cooling agents R404a, R407c, R410a and by deploying the compound compression of working fl uid technology. Methods: Sequential examination of some of the most effi cient technical solutions based on theoretical conclusions and most recent experience of Russia’s research schools was used. Results: Preliminary equipment parameters of a vehicle air conditioner deploying compound compression that can provide heating to passenger carriages with outer air temperatures of –25 degrees Celsius with transformation ratio of about 3. Practical importance: Actual possibility of creating such air conditioners is proven. Study results can be used as guide values in design calculations for vehicle air conditioners deploying the technology of compound compression of working fl uid.
