Accurate microbiologic diagnosis of PJI isimportant for directing appropriate management. There is noidentified pathogen in approximately 7% of PJI cases, frequentlyas a result of antecedent antimicrobial therapy, but occasionallydue to an inability to detect a pathogen by standard laboratorymethods (2).
