Corrosion resistance of high alloyed materials in 3.5% NaCl solution at elevated temperature
2013
In this research electrochemical studies were performed on stainless steels W.Nr. 1.4404, W.Nr. 1.4462, W.Nr. 1.4466 and compared to alloys W.Nr. 2.0882, W.Nr. 2.4360 and W.Nr. 2.4605 in 3.5% NaCl solution at (22±2) °C and (50±2) °C at 200 rpm. Those materials have been evaluated using mass loss, Tafel polarization, cyclic polarization and scanning electron microscopy techniques. Material with best performance was alloy W.Nr. 2.4605 which could be used in the seawater environment at (22±2) °C and (50±2) °C. Materials with very high percentages of chromium and molybdenum showed high resistance toward selective corrosion and materials with high levels of copper showed excellent resistance toward pitting corrosion.
