Ship Structural Casualty Data Assessment.

1977
The considerations necessary to assure that merchant marine shipping will be a profit making endeavor are many. One in particular is that of keeping structural casualties from occurring. In order to reduce the number of structural casualties, those that have occurred should be analyzed to determine the reason and remedy. This project is concerned with these various aspects of structural casualties and their influences on the reliability of the ship. The primary reason for the investigation has been the desire of the Ship Structure Committee to develop a procedure, or use an existing one, based on structural casualty data, to assign priorities to future research projects on a cost effective basis. The availability of adequate data for such a study had been questioned and hence this pilot study to evaluate the situation developed.
