ESR detection of induced moments Pd3+ in halogen-bridged Ni-Pd mixed-metal complexes
2001
Room temperature ESR measurements of quasi-one-dimensional halogen-bridged mixed-metal complexes Ni 1-x Pd x (chxn) 2 Br 3 single crystals have been carried out to study the competition between SDW (Ni 3+ ) and CDW (Pd 2+ -Pd 4+ ) states. Both the principal g-values and corresponding linewidths ΔH PP decrease monotonically as x increases, indicating that magnetic Pd 3+ ions with smaller g-value than that of Ni 3+ are induced from non-magnetic Pd 2+ -Pd 4+ state. The good correlation between g-value and ΔH PP implies that the widths are governed by spin-lattice relaxation time. These results are consistent with the previously observed susceptibility enhancement in the mixed metal chain.
