perceived self-efficacy in the medical encounter. This indicates a high level of perceived health-management skills, patient selfefficacy and health-related quality of life. According to this data, there appears to be a discrepancy between patients’ perceptions of their health status versus objective measures of health such as past medical history and cardiovascular risk. Given what is known about poorer health outcomes among adults with SMI, this study suggests that additional research is needed to objectively evaluate patients’ interactions with physicians to better understand the role of older patients with SMI in primary care encounters.
