CPD: Education extra: Immunosuppressants in solid organ transplantation

2019
Modern medicine provides a lifeline to patients with end-stage disease, making solid organ transplantation possible (e.g. heart, lung, liver and kidney). In 2017, 1,675 Australians received either a living or a deceased donor organ transplant.1 These patients are now reliant on a combination of lifelong immunosuppressants, resulting in a close working relationship with the medical teams supporting their journey. With the emergence of new medicine strengths and formulations, there has never been a more important time for these patients to get to know their pharmacists, as a crucial link in the continuity of care.
