The effect of stirring time varieties in stir casting on the tensile strength and hardness of Al-Cu alloys with alumina reinforcement

This research aimed to obtain the tensile strength and hardness of Al-Cu alloy reinforced with alumina in various stirring durations. This research used the experimental method with pre-experimental research design. The data analysis in this research used the descriptive technique. The results showed that the mechanical properties experienced decreases in tensile strength and increases in hardness value with increasing duration. Based on the average tensile strength and Vickers hardness results, the 60-second stirring duration resulted in tensile strength of 181.4 MPa and hardness of 53.03 HV. The 180-second stirring duration resulted in tensile strength of 158.3 MPa and hardness of 57.94 HV. Meanwhile, the 300-second stirring duration resulted in tensile strength and hardness of 139.1 MPa and 73.7 HV. In conclusion, stirring duration in stir casting method affected the tensile strength and hardness of Al-Cu alloy reinforced with alumina.
