Les hommes du pouvoir et les hommes du savoir en Ifrîqiyya aglabide (184-296/800-909)

In this research we have undertaken the study of certain aspects of life in ifriqiyya during the first three centuries following the advent of islam. On the basis of information contained in chronicies, we have sought to describe and explain the functions of administrative, military and judicial institutions, as well as the practises and structures of the ruling elites. The second part of our study is concerned with religious learning (fiqh and hadith) and the natural sciences (specifically, medecine). Our main sources for these aspects of intellectual life have been biographies, and principle works of fiqh, hadith and medecine.
