Growth responses of Russet Burbank to n-dimethyl amino succinamic acid (B-Nine)

1966
N-dimethyl amino succinamic acid (B-Nine) at several concentrations was sprayed onto developing potato plants in 1963 without causing a measurable effect on yield, grade or specific gravity of the potatoes. The same chemical concentration of B-Nine used in 1963 but combined with a special wetting agent was sprayed in 1964 on younger Russet Burbank potato plants than were used in 1963, and marked tuber malformation and sprout inhibition resulted. The chemical was applied at two stages of maturity, differing by two weeks, but no measurable differences in plant response resulted from the difference in plant maturity, indicating that the wetting agent probably was responsible for a greater absorption of B-Nine in 1964.
