Change in electrophoretic mobility of erythrocytes on reaction with Stewart-Eddy polyoma virus☆

1961
Abstract 1. 1. An improved microscope method of electrophoresis has been devised. 2. 2. The mobility of guinea pig erythrocytes was altered by polyoma virus in the following manner: 2.1. (a) Virus obtained by high speed centrifugation of tissue culture fluid lowered the mobility some 30 per cent. 2.2. (b) Virus partially purified by adsorption and elution from erythrocytes lowered the mobility 70 per cent. Red cells from which the virus had been eluted had a mobility of 70 per cent less than normal erythrocytes. Intervals of 3 to 4 hours of interaction time between virus and red cells were not sufficient to alter the mobility of the erythrocytes.
