Review of the large new accelerators of heavy ions

Review of the large scale new accelerators of heavy ions is given. It is intended to give materials for discussion, of type and scale of an accelerator of heavy ions so big as to need the consultation of people in various fields and various parts of Japan as a national project. Requirements which the machine should fulfill are defined and several types of accelerators are presented together with their characteristics and examples. Brief comments on possibility of new techniques are also given.
