[Contents of T-lymphocytes and expression of intercellular adhesion molecule ICAM-1 in the retina and choroid in diabetic retinopathy].

: The authors analyze the relationships between individual immune components at a cellular level and evaluate their significance in development of proliferative processes. Ocular tissues from diabetics who died from cardiovascular failure and stroke and from subjects who died from traumas (control) were examined by immunohistochemical methods. The results evidence increased counts of T lymphocytes and high expression of ICAM-1 in ocular tissues of diabetics, which suggests an important role of these factors in development of diabetic retinopathy.
