A method for providing a pet-based online communication service using a network, according to one embodiment of the present invention, comprises the steps of: collecting, according to identification information corresponding to a pet, basic characteristics information about the pet or activity characteristics information about the pet; generating status information on the pet by using at least one among the basic characteristics information and the activity characteristics information; generating communication contents related to the status information on the pet by using the status information on the pet; and transmitting the generated communication contents to at least one terminal connected through the network.
