As global competit ions among automotive manufacturers become more and more severe, automotive companies are paying a lot of efforts in large product mix and mult i-batch production to satisfy the consumer’s demands. Most automotive co mpanies try to take adv antage of modeling and simulat ion technologies to realize “ front-loading” of engineering problems in very early stage of product development and production. However, the modeling and simulation is difficult for someone who is not a simulat ion expert, and generally it is expensive and time-consuming to collect and analyze data, make, verify and validate a model. Also, it is very difficult to reflect the changes in the factory for reliable simulations. In this research, we define the standard process and templates for material flow and area analysis of automotive body assembly shops. And a method of automated generation of simulation model using Autodesk and Technomatix is suggested and implemented. The results of this research were applied into body assembly shops of a Korean automotive company, and the results and benefits were explained in this paper.
