An Analysis and Study on the Characteristics of the Medal Count for China in Beijing Olympic Games

The Medal tally of Olympic Games always reflects the overall sports strength of every country involved.By means of literature review,statistics and logical analysis,this study tends to make a statistical analysis on the medal tally of the 29th Olympic Games.The results show that,1) the overall sports strength of China has comprehensively improved;2) China’s medal tally looks like a up-side-down pyramid;3) an imbalance on China’s medal tally is shown with characteristics of a blowout of traditional Chinese sports events with advantages,breakthroughs of some potential sports events and little progress with the fundamental sports events;4) a balance of medals gained male and female athletes is gradually achieved;5) the age structure of athletes is getting more reasonable.This study has objectively evaluated the true competitive strength of Chinese sports and is aware of the gap between Chinese sports and the sports powers in the world for the purpose of promoting an overall and sustainable growth of China’s sports.
