Proper diet and its impact on oral cavity

2016
The authors have pointed out that correct nutrition is one of the factors that lead to the correct development of chewing organs and maintaining the good condition of oral cavity tissues. They have discussed the significance of nutrients, emphasising their role in physiological processes and in the maintenance of good oral cavity condition. Improper diet of children can cause the oral cavity condition to change, affecting the mucosa, causing improper periodontium tissues development, contributing to dental caries, and causing enamel erosion. Proper diet is an important factor, among others, in odontogenesis – the development of temporary and permanent teeth. Therefore, it is crucial to supply one’s organism with the nutrients needed for correct mineralisation and protein structure formation. Improper nutrition may decrease the quality of saliva and lower its productivity.
