Bases de los modelos matemáticos de procesamiento sensorial

2017
The explanation of human sensory mechanisms by means of the development of mathematical models of detection and discrimination processes could be considered one of the fundamental enterprises of basic psychology. The aim of the present paper is to present the logic of the classical approaches and the foundations for its development, both of which are essential for a comprehensive understanding of  current sensory models. The incompatibility between the deterministic conceptual framework and empirical evidence required for psychophysicists to adopt a probabilistic characterization. On the other hand, it is often the case that the subject’s responses in experimental tasks do not correspond to the sensations evoked by the corresponding stimuli. These findings forced to include decision and response mechanisms that underlie the subject’s behavior on experimental tasks.
