Multicomponent seabed seismic improves imaging and prediction of lithology and fluid properties

1999
Multicomponent seabed-seismic acquisition, processing, and interpretation of pressure-, or compressional, (P)-wave and shear (S)-wave data are bringing new insight to seismic exploration and reservoir characterization. New technology must reduce risk through more accurate prospect definition. The use of converted-shear (PS)-waves [p-waves converted by reflection to S-waves] in addition to conventional P-waves can address the risk elements in petroleum exploration work.
