Injection and combustion of coal fuels in gas turbine combustors. Topical report, September 1984-September 1985

1985
(1) Low-viscosity reasonably stable slurries of coal/water, coal/jet-fuel, and coal/methanol have been formulated, and the first two types have been characterized for rheological properties. (2) A number of different spinning nozzles or cup atomizers have been tested for atomization characteristics on a variety of Newtonian liquids and coal/water slurries. (3) Several delivery systems and nozzles have been constructed and testing has begun for injecting powdered coal into a combustion system. 2 refs., 23 figs., 9 tabs.
