Characterization and physical properties of the indides Yb2T2In (T=Cu, Pd, Au)

Abstract The ternary compounds Yb 2 T 2 In ( T =Cu, Pd and Au) have been synthesized. The indides Yb 2 Au 2 In and Yb 2 Pd 2 In crystallize in the Mo 2 FeB 2 structure type, while Yb 2 Cu 2 In proved to be isotypic with the W 2 CoB 2 structure. Magnetic, resistivity and specific heat measurements revealed no magnetic order for any of the compounds but, while in Yb 2 Cu 2 In and Yb 2 Au 2 In the valence of Yb was observed to be ν =2, Yb 2 Pd 2 In exhibits intermediate valence behavior.
